The Quilcene Rangers were the only Jefferson County team to take a win during opening season of high school football.

The Rangers beat out Mary Knight in a 54-38 win.

“It was the first time Holdem (Elkins) played an entire varsity football game at quarterback,” said coach Trey Beathard. “He had a good night throwing for four touchdowns.”

Some of the Rangers’ stats include senior Olin Reynolds with nine for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Reynolds also caught three passes for 73 yards and two additional touchdowns.

Junior Isaac Dugdale was 13 for 56 yards and one touchdown, while sophomore Zach Budnek was eight for 44 yards, ran in twice for two-point conversions and also had a reception for a conversion.

In passing attempts, Elkins had 12 passes with seven completions for 150 yards and four touchdowns.

Senior Robert Comstock III had two receptions for 56 yards, both of which were touchdowns.

Freshman Kevin Alejo had one reception for 10 yards, while Budnek had one reception for 11 yards.

“What I am looking forward to the most this year is seeing how we do against some of the good teams we are going to be playing,” Beathard said.

Looking to their next game at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 against Crescent, Beathard said the team needs to improve in pass defense.

“More pressure on the quarterback by defensive lines, and better coverage from our young secondary,” he said.
