As part of ongoing budget discussions, Port of Port Townsend staff recommended that the commissioners consider the installation of paid parking meters. Being considered are prime parking areas at Point Hudson (in the temporary lot formerly occupied by the Landfall Restaurant) and in high traffic "frontage" areas at Port Townsend Boat Haven.
Sam Gibboney, port executive director, suggested that paid parking in both locations might generate $10,000 in net revenue per year. Discounted annual passes would be available for moorage tenants and some short-term free parking spaces would remain. If the commission approves the budget proposal, Gibboney hoped to have some paid parking option in place before July 2017.
