The summer show celebrating small boats that is nothing short of a spectacular palooza now includes a marine swap meet.
The second annual Pocket Yacht Palooza is this weekend, July 20-21 in downtown Port Townsend. Saturday includes a marine swap meet in the gravel lot across from the Northwest Maritime Center.
The Pocket Yacht Palooza is free to the public, and there are no registration fees for participants. While the majority of boats displayed will be wooden, the event is open to fiberglass hulls.
Most of the boats, in the 8- to 21-foot range, are to be displayed on trailers in the First Federal Commons area of the NWMC, or on the adjoining beach.
The public boat show and the marine swap meet are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Sunday, participants hit the water to share boat rides, compare small-craft designs and have a picnic on the beach at Rat Island.
Palooza is a celebration of smaller rowing and sailing craft, along with traditional smaller motorboats, said organizer Marty Loken. Featured are more than 60 boats including electric launches, camp-cruising sailboats, rowing shells, fuel-efficient catamaran mini-cruisers, traditional rowing boats, sea kayaks and smaller vintage motorboats.
SWAP MEET SATURDAY
Those who would like to sell marine-related items can freely set up between 8:30 and 10 a.m. Saturday, placing for-sale items on tables, tarps or the gravel lot. Vehicles cannot be parked in the 40x80 swap-meet space, except to unload items; vendors are asked to please find parking elsewhere after setting up their displays.
The palooza is organized by the Port Townsend Pocket Yachters club, and cosponsors include Small Craft Advisor magazine, the Northwest Maritime Center, the Puget Sound chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association, the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding and Sage Marine.
