Contestants young and old proudly primped their hairdos Friday in hopes of claiming a prize in at least one of several Rhododendron Festival hair and beard contest categories.
Stiff competition among the bearded was rivaled only by a bevy of young girls with long locks, and judges came prepared with plenty of prizes.
Those included hair cuts from Victorian Clipper and Qianna's Salon, hair products such as shampoo, conditioner, hair spray and pomade from Redken, BIOSILK, Matrix, Paul Mitchell and Tea Tree. For beard category winners in particular, prizes included soap from Duke Cannon Supply Co., a shave set, a ceramic novelty mustache and a men's deluxe travel kit.
This annual contest is sponsored by the Courtyard Cafe.
