A boy with a chick in his pocket and a girl towing a turtle in a tiny, water-filled wagon were just a couple of the creative entries in this year's Rhody Pet Parade.
Perhaps most notable, however, were all the chickens.
“We had a tremendous number of chickens this year,” said parade organizer Elsa Golts, “so next year we might have a bird category.”
Golts said she was impressed by a girl carrying a box of snails and caterpillar called Olivia, as well as a strong showing by San Juan Villa, Jefferson County 4-H and the Olympic Mountain Pet Pals' Read to Rover contingent.
“I think everyone wins at the Pet Parade,” said Golts, who has been running the show for at least the past eight years. “I think the end is the only part we need to work on, but you can only keep so much order no matter what you do.”
Golts said she's always looking to fill out her volunteer ranks. If interested, call her at 379-1676.
