Washington State Ferries has announced that the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry won't operate Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3, due to terminal repairs at Keystone Harbor.

The Coupeville terminal on Whidbey Island is to be closed that weekend for around-the-clock repairs to the transfer span, the moveable piece that connects the ferry to the dock.

Saturday, May 2 happens to be the official opening day of the 2015 recreational boating season.

In other Washington State Ferries news, the spring sailing season starts Sunday, March 22. Surcharges apply to single-use vehicle and driver fares only. Customers using multi-ride tickets are exempt. All routes (except in the San Juan Islands) carry a 25 percent peak-season surcharge; the San Juan Island surcharge is 35 percent for single-use tickets.

The peak-season surcharges go into effect Friday, May 1. A second ferry returns to the Port Townsend-Coupeville route starting on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10.
