Editor’s note. This list was started years ago by the Port Ludlow Voice. It is now maintained by Mariah Lynn Nadeau and was last updated in January 2018. To propose revisions or additions, please email welcome@olympus.net. This list may be copied and distributed. Abbreviations are PT for Port Townsend, PH for Port Hadlock and PL for Port Ludlow. 

Thrift Stores

Goodwill. 602 Howard St., off Sims Way, PT, 360-385-6600. Open  9 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Saturday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday for donations. 

Adventist Thrift Shop. Uptown PT, on Pierce Street, corner of Franklin, at the Better Living Center. Drop box in the side of the building. No big stuff. Good, clean basic clothing, housewares, bedding, shoes.

Olympic Trading Post. 10632 Rhody Drive, PH, 360-379-3648. Accepts usable clothing, furniture, mattresses. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore. 2001 W. Sims Way, PT, 360-385-9653. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday.

Internet

Freecycle. Local listings of items offered for free. You can decide to whom, if anyone, you give the item. To list, go to freecycle.org and search for “Jefferson County WA,” then follow instructions to sign up. A very active list, with more than 1,300 local participants.

Craigslist. To post items for sale, or for free, to Olympic Peninsula list, go to olympic.craigslist.org. 

NextDoor.com. Allows people to connect to various neighborhoods. 

Facebook groups. Jefferson County Buy Sell Trade, Buy Nothing Quimper Peninsula, Buy Nothing Port Ludlow.

Appliances 

Habitat for Humanity Store. Only certain types. Call 360-385-9653.

Peninsula Recycling. See Metals. Accepts non-refrigerating appliances, free. 360-301-1229.

Transfer station. Fee based on weight; additional fee for refrigerators and freezers.

Art Supplies

The Boiler Room. 711 Water St., PT, 360-379-8247. Youth services.

Batteries 

Alkaline. Place in the trash. 

Rechargeables, buttons, lithium, cell phone and auto batteries. Household Hazardous Waste facility in the PT Boat Haven.   

Staples and Office Depot take rechargeables. Or bring to the lobby of Public Works (in PT QFC shopping center).

Car batteries. Penny Saver Market, 2140 E. Sims Way, PT, or

Townsend Electric, 2227 Washington St., PT. Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Bicycles

The ReCyclery. 1925 Blaine St. (Mountain View Commons), PT, 360-643-1755. Noon-5 p.m. Tue.-Sat. Accepts usable bike equipment and bicycles in any condition.

Boats

Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding. 42 N. Water St., PH, 360-385-4948, ext. 313. Open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Books

County and PT libraries. What they don’t add to their collections is sold for other library needs. County library (PH), 360-385-6544. Bring in or phone if donating many items. City library (PT), 360-385-3181. Library has a drop slot by its outside door. 

William James Bookseller. 829 Water St., PT, 360-385-7313. Buys used books 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday and Thursday.

Insatiables. 821 Washington St., PT, 360-385-9262. Buys old, collectible and technical books, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday-Monday.

Building Materials  

Waste Not Want Not. 1532 W. Sims Way, PT, 360-379-6838. Accepts doors, windows, cabinets, light fixtures, toilets, tools, architectural salvage. Buy, sell or trade. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday; 11 a.m.-4 p.m, Sunday. 

Cell Phones, Chargers 

Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault program of Jefferson County. 1045 10th St., PT, 360-385-5292. Donated phones are given to clients for 911 use or sold for other program needs. No chargers.  

Cell Phone Bank. 911cellphonebank.org, or drop off at The Boiler Room, 711 Water St., PT.

Clothing (also see Thrift Stores) 

Working Image. Mountain View Commons, 1925 Blaine St., 360-385-0300. Current, well-made attractive clothing, shoes, outerwear; given to women and teens in need. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday.

The Arc of Kitsap and Jefferson Counties. 360-377-3473 to arrange pickup. Takes donations of gently used clothing. Sales income benefits developmentally disabled clients. 

Fancy Feathers. 910 Water St., PT, 360-385-1414 to make appointment. Consignment. Open 10 a.m.-5.30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

Wandering Wardrobe. 936 Washington St., PT, 360-379-4691. Consigns vintage, designer. By appointment. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday; noon-4 p.m., Sunday.

Electronic Equipment  

Freecycle. (see Internet)

Transfer station and Goodwill. Both accept for free items designated by E-Cycle Washington. Only computers, monitors, laptops, tablet computers, televisions, portable DVD players and e-readers. For details, see ecology.wa.gov/Waste-Toxics/Reducing-recycling-waste/Electronics.

Staples and Best Buy stores .accept most electronic equipment and peripherals, as does Office Depot (small fee).

Eyeglasses

Kiwanis Club c/o Pacific Optical. 2029 E. Sims Way, PT, 385-9580. 8.30 a.m.-noon, 1-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Lions Club c/o Olympic Optical. 2500 W. Sims Way, PT. 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday; Friday, 9 a.m.-noon.

Food

Tri-Area Food Bank, Chimacum. Barrel at PH QFC. Unopened, nonperishable food items, pet food/supplies, baby food, diapers, cleaning supplies, toiletries. Non-food items may be opened.

PT Food Bank. Items as for Tri-Area above. Bring in 6 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesdays; 8.30 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturdays. Donation barrels at PT QFC, Food Co-op. PT Food Bank also accepts fruits and vegetables from local gardeners. 360-531-0275.

Fruit

Quimper Community Harvest.                             will harvest apples and other fruit; surplus goes to food banks, seniors, schools and meals programs. Contact Seth Rolland, 379-0414, or Cathie Wier, 360-202-0677. 

Furniture

Thrift shops. Habitat for Humanity ReStore does not accept particle board; pick up possible. 360-385-9653.

PT Antique Mall. 802 Washington St., PT, 360-379-8069. Sell or consign. See ptantiquemall.com.

Cherry Blossom. 2203 E. Sims Way, PT. Consign; appt. 360-379-0853. Daily, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Homeless Supplies

Sleeping bags, good tents, warm socks, outerwear. Winter Shelter, Legion Hall basement, Monroe and Water St., PT, 360-385-1403. Bring after 4 p.m. during operating season, November through end of March. 

Household hazardous waste

In Boat Haven. Across from Safeway, PT. See county website.

Linens

Old sheets and towels. fleece or cotton blankets are useful to the Humane Society of Jefferson County (animal shelter), next to the transfer station on Jacob Miller Road. 360-385-3292.Noon-5 p.m.  Good ones can also go to thrift stores. 

Mattresses

Olympic Trading Post accepts clean mattresses. The other thrift shops listed do not. 

Medical Equipment

Ecumenical Christian Helping Hands Organization (ECHHO). loans medical items for free. It accepts walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, commode chairs, hospital beds. 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. 1110 Jefferson St., 360-379-3246 (phone ahead).  

Port Ludlow Community Church. at 9534 Oak Bay Road, 360-437-0145, accepts some donations for ECHHO. 

Medications

Don’t flush. They damage marine life and drinking water. See also Sharps.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. 79 Elkins Road, 360-385-3831. 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Non-liquid prescription medicines only. Bring to the sheriff’s office in original containers, then transfer to your zip-close bag.

Metals

Peninsula Recycling & Auto Wrecking. 4711 S. Discovery Road (Four Corners area), PT, 360-301-1229. All non-refrigerating appliances; autos and auto parts; “anything metal.”  

Motor Oil

Oil filters should be drained, double-wrapped in newspaper and placed in your trash.  

Port Ludlow Marina Store. 1 Gull Drive, PL, 360-437-0513. Winter, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; summer 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Ask for key.  

Household Hazardous Waste Facility, PT. Also oil filters, fuels, antifreeze. Do not mix. 

Transfer station and Quilcene site. (See county web site above.) Used oil, antifreeze.

Moving Boxes

U-Haul. Junction of State Routes 19 and 20, 360-385-3813. Takes used U-Haul moving boxes.

Musical instruments

Crossroads Music. 2100 Lawrence St., PT, 360-385-1471. 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday; noon-4 p.m., Saturday. Donate or consign. 

Packing materials (also see Moving Boxes)

Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Parking lot (adjacent to small shed), 2333 San Juan Ave., PT. Peanuts, clean white block material only. Small donation appreciated to offset costs.

UPS Store. 2023 E. Sims Way, PT, 360-385-7447. Foam peanuts, bubble wrap, air pillows. 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday. 

Mike’s Mail & More. 46 Village Way, PL, 360-437-2939. Accepts foam peanuts, bubble wrap. 

Paint

Full cans: Waste Not, or Around Again (see Building Materials). Oil-based to HHW. 

Latex/acrylic: Discard lid, thicken with kitty litter or sawdust to non-pourable consistency and place in trash. 

Personal Care Items 

Toiletries. Unopened hotel soaps, shampoo, makeup for Dove House Advocacy Services (assists victims of domestic violence), 1045 10th St., PT. Or via PL Bay Club. (See also Food and Homeless.)

Pet Supplies

Center Valley Animal Rescue. 11900 Center Road, Quilcene, 360-765-0598. Appreciates food, scoopable litter, linens, many other supplies. Call for information and directions. 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday-Sunday. 

Plastic Bags

Clean, dry bags. Deposit boxes in QFC, Safeway. No labels.

Plastic bottles, containers. See recycling lists. No brittle clamshell-type plastics, no lids, no drink cups. No pill bottles.

Printer Ink Cartridges 

PT Computers. In PT QFC shopping center, 360-379-0605. Accepts inkjet and laser cartridges. Open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Olympic Art and Office. 220 Taylor St., PT, 360-385-3141. Inkjet only. 

Staples, Office Depot,and Best Buy stores accept both inkjet and laser cartridges.

Propane Tanks

Sunshine Propane. 10853 Rhody Drive, PH. Accepts 10-gallon or larger. 360-385-5797.

Sewing Supplies

Project Linus. Welcomes yarn, machine-washable solid or child-friendly print material, batting, etc. Volunteers make quilts for children in need. Contact Phyllis Carey at 360-797-7417. 

Sharps

Put in red sharps container or plastic soda bottle, lid taped securely, on top of trash. Details at jeffersoncountypublichealth.org/701/Home-Syringe-Disposal.

Smoke Alarms 

Put in the trash.

Textiles

Goodwill. Accepts clean textiles, to reprocess into other goods; items are sorted, so it’s OK to mix with resellable clothing.

Tires

Les Schwab. 2355 Sims Way, PT, 360-385-0124. Accepts passenger car tires, no rims, for $3 each.

Tools

Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Accepts most hand tools and working power tools.

Trash

Transfer stations. 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Saturday in PT. 1-5 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays in Quilcene. See county website for fees.

Yard Debris

Facilities. PT Biosolids Composting Facility is at the transfer station. Yard waste, brush and small tree limbs. No dirt, sod, rocks or stumps. Fee based on weight.
