A motorcyclist rear-ended a pickup, which was stopped to make a left turn on State Route 104, and was ejected from his bike into the truck bed.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Saturday morning, May 14, Cecil E. Pierce, 57, of Oak Harbor was driving a black 2013 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic FLHTC eastbound on State Route 104. He was near milepost 12, approaching the hill before the Hood Canal Bridge.

Robert D. Ernst, 30, of Port Ludlow was driving a red 1992 Ford F250 pickup eastbound on SR 104, stopped to turn left onto Garden Road.

About 8:35 a.m. May 14, the motorcyclist struck the pickup’s rear. Pierce was ejected, and landed in the pickup bed. Pierce was injured, and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

As of Monday, May 16, Pierce was listed in serious and improving condition.

Ernst was not injured. A passenger in his pickup, Krystal L. White, 21, of Port Ludlow, was not injured. Both occupants were wearing safety restraints.

The motorcycle was totaled, and impounded to Northwest Towing. The pickup sustained reportable damage, and was driven from the scene.

According to the state patrol, the accident’s cause is Pierce going too fast for conditions, and the citation would be speed too fast for conditions.
