“Mr. Fountain informed the council that the automobile used by the Water Department had reached a period of respectful middle age when it would be cheaper to buy a new machine than continue to operate the old one.”

“F.C. Shananan, piano tuner, will be in town a few days. Leave orders at the Delmonico Hotel.”

“A team, wagon and harness are for sale. Phone 490.”

60 years ago this week (1957)

Police make the second bust in a week of a large group of juveniles in the woods and drinking beer.

A “get rich quick pyramid bond scheme” that originated with a Port Angeles businessman and spread from Clallam County to Jefferson County is “collapsing locally” and is now spreading to Tacoma and Olympia as latecomers try to keep it going to recoup their investment.

More than 1,200 people attend the grand opening of the Washington Co-op Neighborhood Farm Store in Chimacum. Eino Putas is the manager.

10 years ago this week (2007)

The Jefferson County Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program wants to build a “service and transitional living center” in Port Townsend. The center’s first floor would house offices and support services. The second floor would consist of four apartments, where selected clients could live for as long as two years as they make the transition into a normal life.

A petition drive to offer a choice for a “strong mayor” system in Port Townsend city government needs more signatures to qualify to be on the November ballot.
