A Port Ludlow man is in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after a head-on collision Oct. 19 along Paradise Bay Road.
Franz Gruber, 75, of Port Ludlow was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center along with John D. Church, 45, of Everett after their cars collided just north of Timberton Drive not far from the Port Ludlow Village Center at 2:25 p.m., Oct. 19.
Church remains in serious condition in intensive care as of Oct. 20, according to a Harborview spokesperson.
Church was driving a dark blue 2015 Mazda sedan heading south away from the village center when Gruber, heading north in a silver 2009 Toyota Camry, crossed the centerline, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy Kevin Denney said.
“We're still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor,” said Denney, who is handling the investigation.
That stretch of road was closed Oct. 19 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., he said.
Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue, East Jefferson Fire Rescue, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Engine 91 from NAVMAG Indian Island and Quilcene Fire Rescue responded to the accident scene, while Public Utility District crews provided initial traffic control.
