The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 235 calls between April 7 and April 15, according to Undersheriff Art Frank. Frank reviewed the calls and reported the following incidents of interest to the community:

A deputy responded to a traffic violation at 2:30 a.m. April 9 at Four Corners. The driver was determined to be driving under the influence and booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

A deputy responded at 11:39 a.m. April 10 to an area of Paradise Bay Road after it was reported a vehicle went off the road. The investigation determined the damage did not meet the reporting threshold, and no response was required. After a collision, it is not always necessary that law enforcement respond. Unless there is an injury or traffic hazard, it may be that the driver can handle the incident without a call to 911. However, if there is doubt, people are advised to call 911. A deputy responded at 2:18 a.m. April 11 to the area of Maple Street in Port Hadlock to a report of sounds of an injured dog or chicken. The reporting party was concerned there may be a wild animal in the area. The responding deputy did not locate the source of the noise.

A deputy responded at 8:30 p.m. April 11 to the 6000 block of State Route 20 regarding a 911 report of a domestic disturbance. The couple had separated before the deputy arrived and before there was a physical assault. In Washington, an arrest for domestic violence may be mandatory, even if the victim does not want to press charges. Cooler heads prevailed in this instance.

Deputies responded to assist the Quilcene Fire Department at 6:43 a.m. April 12 on Deer Road at the bottom of Coyle Road. A resident’s house was fully engulfed in fire, and the owner was standing in front, holding a rifle. When the first fire responder arrived, the subject made statements about getting back at the government. The cause of the fire is undetermined, and the house was a total loss.

Deputies responded to a traffic collision at 9 p.m. April 12 in the 700 block of Irondale Road. When they arrived, they found a truck had driven off the road and into a building. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and was in possession of about 15 pounds of marijuana.

A deputy responded at 6:35 p.m. April 13 to the area of Seventh Avenue and Price Street in Port Hadlock after receiving a report of a female pushing a stroller and stumbling. The deputy responded to the area and could not locate the woman. The original caller did not know for sure if there was a child in the stroller.

Deputies responded at 10:30 p.m. April 15 to the QFC in Port Hadlock regarding a report of a suspicious male and female in the bathroom. Deputies contacted the two and as a result of the investigation arrested both for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
