The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to 338 calls for service between Jan. 8 and Jan. 15, including 13 requests for help with a civil process, 16 field interviews, 4 reports of harassment, 4 incidents of property damage, 2 noise complaints, 9 reports of suspicious circumstances and 8 traffic complaints. Deputies made 119 traffic stops.

A sample of calls, compiled by Sgt. Bret Anglin, includes the follow reports:

Several residents near the Port Townsend city limits reported hearing someone yelling and screaming near the Larry Scott Trail at 12:17 a.m. on Jan. 10. The residents said that they could hear the man swearing and threatening to hurt someone. Deputies located the man, who was likely under the influence of drugs, walking down the Larry Scott Trail. An investigation revealed that the man had outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was arrested, and controlled substances were found in his pockets, according to a report by the deputy. The man was booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

A Brinnon resident contacted JCSO at 4:57 p.m., Jan. 12 to report that a pop music star was being sexually assaulted in the area. The deputy determined that the woman had made 13 prior false reports to JCSO and is the subject of neighborhood complaints regarding her property. After the deputy arrived, the woman reported that everything was OK and that the neighbor had chased the suspects away from the music star. When the deputy attempted to gather information for a false-reporting case, the woman began yelling obscenities and retreating into her residence, the deputy reported. The woman was arrested and transported to Jefferson County Jail, where she was booked for false reporting and resisting arrest.

Deputies were conducting local traffic emphasis patrols on Jan. 13, when a deputy observed a vehicle that had a burned-out headlight. Upon turning around to stop the vehicle, the deputy noted that the driver sped up in an apparent attempt to evade him. After going about a mile and a half, the driver pulled over after having automotive difficulties, a deputy wrote in his report.

In addition to a deputy on hand, there were other law officers from Port Townsend Police Department and the Washington State Patrol nearby because of the emphasis patrol.

The vehicle, determined to be stolen, was occupied by three people. JCSO benefited from the emphasis patrol by having several law enforcement officers available to help contain the scene. JCSO later determined that the suspects were in Jefferson County to sell stolen goods.

A Brinnon resident contacted the Sheriff’s Office at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 to report that unknown suspects had driven around her gated property and stolen several items, including firewood, garden tools and a gas stove. A deputy investigated the incident, and the resident was given advice on how to secure her property in the future.
