A sample of the cases officers responded to include:

Police responded to a business on E. Sims Way at 2 p.m., Feb. 9 after the business owner reported that the suspect in a Feb. 5 burglary of the business was in his store. In that incident, the suspect had entered the business after an employee forgot to lock a door at the business, and it was burglarized. Some cash and other items were taken. The suspect was arrested on possible charges of burglary, theft and malicious mischief, and transported to jail.

Two female suspects who had taken items from a store on Water Street told the store owner they would return the items they took at noon on Feb. 9. The owner asked that police be available when the suspects returned to the store. The suspects had taken items from the back room the day before, and they left the price tags behind along with a pair of boots belonging to one of the suspects. Neither suspect showed up to return the items.

At 5:05 p.m., Feb. 9, officers responded to a store on Sims Way where a man had been yelling and screaming at an employee. An off-duty officer escorted the subject out the door after the man had attempted to grab two knives. The subject told police he was upset because he could not get a check cashed because it was for a large sum of money. The store manager did not want to press charges, but asked that the man be banned from the store for one year. The man signed the trespass admonishment and acknowledged that he could be arrested if he came back on the property.

Police arrested a man at 8:10 p.m., Feb. 10 after two women jumped off the man’s boat and into a rowboat to get away from him. The man was accused of raping one of the women. He was arrested, transported to jail and booked on possible charges of rape.

Officers responded to a store on Sims Way at 6:45 p.m., Feb. 14 after an employee called to say that a man and a woman, who had a child with them, had loaded up a cart with items and then left in a vehicle. The theft had occurred about 20 minutes before, and the employee had video of the incident and the license plate number of the vehicle. The vehicle was not found at the suspects’ residence.
