Officers with the Port Townsend Police Department (PTPD) responded to 200 calls for service July 1-7, 2016. Among the calls were 8 instances of fireworks, 7 traffic complaints and collisions, 13 animal complaints, 9 instances of assisting other agencies, 13 counts of burglary and theft, 4 DUIs, and 23 follow-ups, investigations and foot patrols. During this period, PTPD made 35 traffic stops.

Officers responded on July 1 to a fire alarm in a multistory residence downtown. A suspect was located and taken into custody for tampering with the fire alarm. The suspect’s dog, which was in his vehicle, was also taken into custody and transported to the animal shelter for safekeeping. Officers also assisted with traffic control for East Jefferson Fire Rescue during the incident.

On July 3, a neighbor reported that two males who had arrived on bikes were trying to get into a vacant home on Ninth Street. One suspect was observed trying to gain access through two ground-level windows. Officers found the two male suspects in the home. The men claimed they were working on the home. One of the suspects had a felony warrant.

Officers received a call July 3 from a person whose neighbor's house on Logan Street had been broken into. The person reported observing a possible suspect wearing a hoodie. Officers found that a screen had been removed and the house had been rummaged through. Fingerprints were taken; no suspects were located.

On July 4, a downtown hotel reported two people prowling the neighborhood and cars in a private parking lot. An employee of the hotel confronted the pair, a male and female. The caller had not seen any crimes being committed, but thought they were up to no good. A PTPD patrol was not able to locate the suspects.

On July 5, a woman called to report a female neighbor had walked into her apartment and began screaming at her. Officers arrived and found the suspect had opened the door and entered the apartment without permission. She was arrested for trespassing.

A male caller reported July 6 he had been assaulted by a female in the vicinity of Union Wharf. The female suspect was located on Taylor Street and was cited for assaulting the male.

On July 7, a business on Sheridan Street reported an adult female was observed shoplifting, after which she was detained by an employee. When officers arrived, they cited and released the suspect.

A report was received on July 7 that a male was choking another male on the sidewalk outside a Sims Way store. The victim was an employee of the store; he received possible arm injuries in addition to being choked. The suspect was arrested.
