Officers with the Port Townsend Police Department responded to 173 calls for service Jan. 4-10, 2016. Of 26 traffic stops, 5 resulted in tickets being issued. Of the 173 calls for service during the week of Jan. 4-10, 23 involved a subject with mental health concerns. Also among the calls that PTPD responded to were 6 animal-related complaints, 1 report of assault, 3 burglary reports and 5 calls about harassment.

A Port Townsend female came into the police department at 11:53 a.m., Jan. 4 to file a report for her stolen pursue. There are no suspects.

Officers were called at 3:45 p.m., Jan. 4 by a store on Sheridan Street after it had been discovered that an employee had allegedly stolen $600. Officers arrived and spoke to the suspect, who was given a citation and released with a date to appear in court.

At 3:45 p.m., Jan. 4, officers were called to the area of 12th and Holcomb streets for a women yelling at people and running into traffic. The female was initially detained for disorderly conduct but officers found the women was most likely under the influence of narcotics and suffering from ongoing mental-health issues. During the struggle to detain the women and get her transported to Jefferson Healthcare hospital for medical care she assaulted two police officers and injured one by punching him in the nose possibly breaking it. Both officers were also taken to the hospital for examination of their injuries.

At 7:24 p.m., Jan. 4, officers were called multiple times by a women at Eddy Court who was having delusions related to mental health issues and possible illegal narcotic use. Officers were able calm the female, but she refused to seek services from the ER or Jefferson Mental health.

Officers were called at 7:07 p.m., Jan. 5 to a business on Sims Way for an intoxicated 28-year-old transient who was harassing customers and drinking in front of the business. Despite multiple requests by employees to stop his behavior, he continued. Officers arrived and contacted the male. He was provided with a trespass admonishment and left the area.

Officers went to another business on Sims Way at 10:46 p.m., Jan. 5 which was calling about the aggressive behavior of the 28-year-old transient male. This time the male had been asked to leave the area and was yelling at the manager before police arrived. When officers arrived, they found the male had exposed himself to a person in the parking lot. However, the victim was not shocked or offended and therefore officers could not arrest the suspect. The transient male was given a trespass admonishment for the second store. While talking to the male, the officers noted an open alcoholic beverage. The male decided he would rather pour out the drink than face a ticket for having an open container in public.

At 6:44 a.m., Jan. 6, officers responded to a report of an unwanted intoxicated relative on the caller’s property on Olympic Ave. Officers arrived and found it was the same 28-year-old transient they had dealt with the night before. The male agreed to leave the area but asked for a ride to Jefferson Healthcare hospital, which the officers provided.

Officers were called to Jefferson Healthcare hospital at 5:50 p.m., Jan. 10 when a discharged female patient refused to leave the ER and became aggressive towards staff. Officers arrived and calmed the situation. The patient was upset she had nowhere to go. Officers offered to give the patient a ride to the Winter Shelter so she would have a place to stay for the night.

Officers arrived at the Winter Shelter at 6:16 p.m., Jan. 10 with the female patient from Jefferson Healthcare hospital. When they arrived, a male with a DOC felony warrant approached the officers and turned himself in. He had fled from officers a couple days prior but stated he was ready to go to jail now. Officer placed the man in custody without incident and transported him to the jail.
