Terrance Lavergne, 28, of the Coyle Peninsula has been identified as the man who was reported missing after a marine incident Feb. 18, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Detective Joe Nole.

As of press time on Tuesday, Lavergne had not been found, according to Undersheriff Art Frank.

Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue (PLFR) and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said a boot and a headlamp was found that they believe belong to a man who went missing Sunday, Feb. 18 after his rowboat capsized south of the Hood Canal Bridge.

At about 8:30 p.m., PLFR personnel responded to a call of a man missing from a rowboat that had capsized, according to a press release. The man was reportedly wearing waders, which he may have removed. He was not wearing a life vest, the release said. At the time of the incident, the tide was going out and the wind was causing rough water.

The U.S. Coast Guard was advised of the incident, and a helicopter was deployed, scheduled to arrive at about 9 p.m. PLFR responded with a boat and searched the area for more than three hours.

Divers from the Coast Guard and Washington State Patrol found a single boot and a headlamp that belonged to the victim, according to the release.

The Coast Guard continued looking for the man through the night, and PLFR and the sheriff’s office launched boats Monday morning to continue the search. After more than 18 hours of searching the area where the man went into the water, all responding units suspended the search and returned to shore.
