For the first time in two years, the tall ship Lady Washington will be offering sails to the public this weekend.
Local residents are currently getting a view of Lady Washington after she made her return to the Northwest Maritime Center April 28.
The ship is docked at 431 Water St., serving as an educational field trip for students and adults alike, allowing vessel tours from 4 to 5 p.m. through May 4.
A $5 donation is requested for each tour.
Starting May 5, Lady Washington will be part of the Port Townsend Yacht Club boat parade, followed by an adventure sail from 2 to 4 p.m.
To participate in either event, the cost runs from $42 to $55.
A final tour and sail will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m. May 6 before leaving for Port Ludlow on May 8.
“The tall ship, part of the Washington-based nonprofit Grays Harbor Historical Seaport, sails the waters of the Pacific each year along with her companion vessel, Hawaiian Chieftain, offering educational programs, free deck tours and sailing excursions,” a release from Grays Harbor Historical Seaport stated. “Lady Washington is the official ambassador of the state of Washington.”
The ship is a full-scale replica of the original, which was the first American vessel to make landfall on the west coast of North America, Hong Kong, Japan and Honolulu.
Port Ludlow
Beginning May 9, Lady Washington will be docked at the Port Ludlow Marina, located at 1 Heron Road.
Vessel tours will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m. May 9-11; from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 12-13. A battle sail is set for 2-5 p.m. May 12, and an adventure sail for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 13. Prices for the sails range from $42 to $79; on May 13, a special Mother’s Day sail allows for the cost to be $5 when a person brings their mom.
