An annual celebration of youth leadership and activism in the fight against tobacco-use is taking place in Chimacum on Wednesday, March 16.

On “Kick Butts Day,” kids nationwide demand that tobacco companies stop marketing deadly products to them and encourage elected officials to help reduce youth tobacco use.

Starting at 9 a.m., Jefferson Healthcare staff will be on hand to educate teens and hand out useful information on the dangers of tobacco and ask students to pledge to not start using tobacco. Sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the event is at the Chimacum High School, 91 W. Valley Road. For more information, contact Kate Burke at 643-1910.

Active duty and retired members of the U.S. Coast Guard and their family members who sign a pledge card committing to be tobacco-free will receive a coupon for the Port Angeles Coast Guard Exchange (CGX). The signed pledge cards will be posted on a commitment wall inside the CGX store. The event is 9 a.m. at CGX, Ediz Hook Road in Port Angles. Contact Fonda Campbell at 457-8600 for more information.
