Port Townsend Main Street "Girls' Night Out" Oct. 6 proved to be another successful fundraising event, thanks to the attendees, and the 34 participating businesses.

The combination of raffle ticket sales and the sale of goodie bags raised $3,110 for Jefferson Healthcare Foundation, and $3,110 for Port Townsend Main Street Program, both 501c3 nonprofit organizations. Proceeds benefit Jefferson Healthcare Foundation to help provide breast and cervical cancer screenings, care and treatment for low income Jefferson County residents.

To date, Port Townsend Main Street’s Girls’ Night Out has raised $36,100 to assist women who need cancer screenings, according to Mari Mullen, Main Street executive director.

New this year, 60 women participated in a 1.47-mile "Polka Dot Tiara Trot" fun run/walk last Thursday morning. Participants received a T-shirt from Jefferson Healthcare with a message about the importance of getting health screenings. The Jefferson Healthcare Foundation sponsored an open house at the Cotton Building as part of the day's activities.

The post-event "wrap party" drew 70 people to the Belmont Restaurant. The raffle grand prize drawing was won by Kate Marshall of Port Hadlock, with Ann Bailey of Port Townsend winner the second prize.

Event volunteer Nadine Jonientz of Port Townsend was honored for the "Most Polka Dots Award" on her outfit. She also made a fleecy blanket as the raffle drawing at the morning's fun run, a prize won by Nora Mitchell.

Next year's Girls Night out is set Oct. 5.
