Winter is the hardest time of year to be hungry. The Leader has compiled this list of free or low-cost local food resources to help keep your belly full without breaking your bank. Many of the following organizations are supported through donations of money, supplies and time. Eat well, and consider giving back when you can.

BOILER ROOM

Wednesdays, 7-9:30 p.m., Movie Night, pizza donated by Waterfront Pizza.

Fridays, 3 p.m., free food.

Saturdays, 3 p.m., “Food Not Bombs,” includes at least one vegan item.

Sundays, 3 p.m., free soup.

OLYCAP SENIOR MEALS

Wednesdays, Fridays, Mondays, 4 p.m., Tri-Area Community Center, 10 W. Valley Road, Chimacum. Requested donation of $5 for those older than 60, $8 younger than 60.

PORT TOWNSEND SENIOR ASSOCIATION LUNCH

Thursdays, 12:15 p.m. Ages 55 and older. Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St. Requested donation of $3-$5.

JUST SOUP

Wednesdays, noon-2 p.m. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church offers free soup and bread. 1020 Jefferson St.

COMMUNITY SOUP

Tuesdays, 4-6:30 p.m. Irondale Church offers soup for the community. 681 Irondale Road, Port Hadlock.

BRINNON SOUP AND SUPPER

The Brinnon Community Soup Kitchen and Brinnon Supper Club have combined their efforts and resources to become Brinnon Soup and Supper.

Soup: Mondays and Fridays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. $1.50-$2.50 (cookies are an extra 50 cents).

Supper: Wednesdays, 5 p.m. $4-$5. Reservations are requested one day in advance for suppers.

Movie Night: First Wednesday of each month, 6 p.m. Pizza, popcorn and a movie are all included for $5 with reservations, or you are invited to watch the movie for free.

All ages are welcome.

FOOD BANKS

If your pantry is empty and you are broke, visit one of the four East Jefferson County food banks – no questions asked.

Brinnon: Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 151 Corey Lane.

Quilcene: Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Quilcene Community Center, 294952 U.S. Hwy. 101.

Chimacum: Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Tri-Area Community Center, 10 W. Valley Road, Chimacum.

Port Townsend: Wednesdays (general public) and Saturdays (seniors 65 and older). Mountain View Commons, 1925 Blaine St. Sign-up on Wednesdays begins at 6:30 a.m., pickup is between 10:30 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. There is also a “quick pick room.” Saturday hours (seniors only) are noon-2 p.m.
