United Good Neighbors of Jefferson County (UGN) launches a new, free online service, Get Connected Jefferson, which serves as a center for individuals, youth and groups seeking volunteer opportunities in Jefferson County.

Get Connected goes beyond creating matches among the service community and private citizens to help build lasting relationships between nonprofits, community members and the business community, according to a UGN press release.

“United Good Neighbors of Jefferson County is excited about providing an online resource to Jefferson County nonprofits, public agencies and community members that will increase the potential of volunteerism in our county,” said Nikki Russell, director of development and community engagement at UGN.

The online resource includes a searchable list of local nonprofits and public agencies, volunteer opportunities and community events. Community members can search the online database by interest, availability and location, and create accounts to receive alerts when opportunities are available and to track volunteer activities and time.

Opportunities currently listed online include volunteering for the Boiler Room, Olympic Music Festival, Disability Awareness Starts Here, United Good Neighbors, Jefferson County Backpack for Kids Weekend Nutrition Program, Port Townsend Marine Science Center, Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County, Jefferson Land Trust, Port Townsend Main Street Program and Friends of Port Townsend Library.

Community members can go to

getconnectedjc.weareugn.org to respond to community needs, or visit United Way of Jefferson County’s website at weareugn.org and click on "volunteer."

United Good Neighbors believes everyone benefits when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable and when people are healthy.
