Election Letter: Whoops, GOP gets numbers wrong on Proposition 1

Yup, it’s happening again. More hocus-pocus from the Republicans. Now the Republican chair says that the average tax burden for a middle-class homeowner from Proposition 1 would be $750. Not quite.

If I multiply $.36 x 300 (thousand), I get $108 for a $300,000 house. That is nowhere near $750.

The averaging on a progressive income tax is a low blow, but a typical manipulation. It was an underhanded way of misrepresenting a system of taxation.
