Voters in the Brinnon School District have until Tuesday, Feb. 13 to vote on a two-year maintenance and operation replacement levy.

As of Monday, Feb. 5, 307 of 1,012 registered voters eligible to cast ballots have voted, representing 30 percent of voters, according to Betty Johnson, Jefferson County elections official.

The 69-student district is asking to collect $314,681 for 2019 and $320,975 for 2020, which Brinnon School Superintendent Patricia Beathard estimated would cost property owners $1.16 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation in 2019, and $1.19 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2020.

The median home value in Brinnon is $202,700, according to County Assessor Jeff Chapman.

Ballots must be postmarked no later than Feb. 13 or placed in an official election drop box by 8 p.m. that same day. Elections officials recommend that ballots mailed on Election Day, Feb. 13, be hand-canceled.

Drop-box locations include the Brinnon and Quilcene community centers, as well as the back parking lot of the Jefferson County Courthouse and the Auditor’s Office, on the first floor of the courthouse.

Beathard previously said that because the levy is a standard maintenance and operations type, the expenses her district is looking to cover have less to do with facilities and more to do with services and programs.
