The Discovery Bay Women's Golf Club continues to hit the links on a weekly basis through the summer.

On July 19, the women's golf club played a game called “Ones.”

“For this game, each player's score is counted for only the holes beginning with the letters O, N, E or S,” club spokeswoman Dee Sweeney said. “So, 1, 6, 7, 8 and so on, minus your handicap, for a total net score.”

The winner was Jane Guiltinan, with a net score of 33, while Katherine Buchanan and Diane Solie tied for second place, with a shared net score of 34.5. Lynn Pierle won third place, with a net score of 37, and Wanda Synnestvedt came in fourth, with a net score of 37.5.

On July 26, the game of the day was “Criss Cross.”

“This one saw players take their lowest score, between each hole on the front nine and the corresponding hole on the back nine, to make their best nine-hole score,” Sweeney said.

The winners were Ann Meier in first place with 25, Janie Marcus in second place with 25.5, Barb Aldrich in third place with 27.5, and Buchanan in fourth place with 30.5.

On August 2, the game was “Predict Your Score,” which asked the players to do exactly that.

First place was a tie between Guiltinan and Jane Peoples, each of whom were only one shot off the mark, while Marcus came in second, since she was just two shots off the mark.

Third place was a three-way tie between Pierle, Pat Burns and Vicki Young, all of whom were five shots off the mark.

The women's golf club invites guests to try out either their nine-hole or 18-hole groups, to join in the fun.

The 18-hole group meets Thursday mornings, from now through October, with tee times at 9 a.m. and meetings in the women’s lounge at 8:30 a.m.

The 18-hole group includes players of all skill levels, most of whom have handicaps or are working toward a handicap.

Friendly competition are featured each Thursday, which are optional for any player.

Players pay $2 into a pot, and money is awarded to the winners.

The nine-hole group meets Tuesdays mornings, also from now through October, with tee times at 9:30 a.m. and meeting in the women’s lounge at 9 a.m.

The nine-hole group plays what Sweeney calls “a casual, low-key, non-competitive round,” for those who either:

1. Only want to play nine holes.

2. Feel their game needs a little work before they can join the 18-hole group.

3. Are just beginning.

4. Would like to work toward a handicap.

5. Can’t play on Thursdays.

If a person is interested in joining, contact Pierle at lpierle@hotmail.com.

“You'll have a chance to meet all of our friendly women golfers, and learn that playing with a club is mostly about having fun, improving your golf game and meeting people to play golf with,” Sweeney said.
