On Aug. 9, the Discovery Bay Women's Golf Club hosted a “Guest Day,” and played a game called “Better Nine,” during which club spokeswoman Dee Sweeney explained that each golfer's score would be determined by her best score on either the front-nine or back-nine holes, minus their handicap.
That week's winners included Linda Hash, visiting from Sequim, in first place with a net score of 32, and Elaine Thayer, visiting from Tustin, California, in second place with a net score of 32.5.
Sharing third place were Jane Peoples, Lynn Pierle and Ann Meier, all with a net score 34, each, while fourth place went to Wanda Synnestvedt, with a net score of 35.
On August 16, the Discovery Bay Women's Golf Club played a game called “Pro Nine,” also known as “Hidden Holes.”
“For this game, PGA Pro Jeff Kent randomly selected nine holes, which were not revealed to the golfers until after play,” Sweeney said.
That week's winners included Peoples in first place, with a net score of 33.5, followed by Sweeney in second place, with a net score of 34.5, and Starla Audette in third place, with a net score of 36.
Tied for fourth place were Barbara Aldrich and Norma Lupkes, with a net score of 37 each.
