The Republican candidate came in first in a four-way race for the Jefferson County Commissioner District 3 position.
So said the preliminary released results of the Aug. 7 primary election at 8 p.m., which Auditor Rose Ann Carroll presented to the public.
In the County Commissioner District 3 race, Republican Jon Cooke received 1,382 votes, or 37.37 percent of the vote, while Democrat Greg Brotherton received 1,265 votes, or 34.21 percent of the vote.
The other two Democratic candidates, Ryan Mc Allister and Craig Durgan, received 18.98 and 9.22 percent of the vote, respectively.
Cooke admitted he didn't expect to do as well as he did.
“I thought the Democrats would split the vote between them a bit, but I was sure it would be much closer,” Cooke said.
Brotherton acknowledged that he came in second to Cooke in the primary, but remained confident that “we'll work hard to switch that around” in the general election, in part by continuing to focus on affordable housing.
And Chimacum School District Rick Thompson thanked the community for their 57.68 percent “yes” vote on the levy, but noted that “we've still got hard work ahead.”
