A gathering for the community to freely question and express its understanding of Islam, and also to meet local Muslims, is set for Saturday, May 14 in Port Townsend.

Sponsored by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Seattle together with Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (QUUF), “Coffee, Cake and Islam: A Candid Conversation About Islam in Port Townsend” takes place 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at QUUF, 2333 San Juan Ave.

The event offers an opportunity for the community to get to know each other better, so that we can create a community based on respect and understanding in this time of increased polarization in society, according to a press release.

Speakers, all representing the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Seattle, are Imam Zafar Sarwar, life devotee and regional missionary; Waqas Malik, vice president; and Rasheed Reno, director.

The Amhadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, fast-growing international reformist movement within Islam. Founded in 1889, the community spans 206 countries, with membership exceeding tens of million. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is the only Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) of Qadian, India.
