Business leaders and officials from across the Olympic Peninsula are to meet at Fort Worden this month to discuss tourism opportunities and share ideas at the annual Olympic Peninsula Tourism Summit.
The event is Thursday and Friday, Oct. 27-28 in Port Townsend. Discounted advanced registration is available through Friday, Oct. 14, with multiple lodging venues offering conference rates as well. Registration is $50 for Thursday, $100 for Friday and $140 for both days, with discounts available for multiple attendees from the same business.
The event plans two different days of sessions: a "Culinary Day" with associated field trips, running from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27; and the more traditional conference style of speakers and breakout sessions for "Tourism Day," 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. Both days start out at the Commons at Fort Worden, Port Townsend.
Thursday's events include a "lunch and learn" panel discussion on “Operating a Farm-to-Fork Business with an Eye on the Bottom Line," with multiple peninsula food-business executives sharing insights and answering questions. The afternoon offers a choice of several excursions, ranging from agritourism visits to Chimacum-area farms to a cruise around Protection Island.
Friday's conference features multiple speakers covering topics ranging from exploring wilderness to attracting international visitors. Afternoon breakout sessions discuss a variety of topics in greater depth with small groups, offering ideas on increasing slow-season demand, using social media for marketing and small-business tips.
Organizer Christina Pivarnik, director of marketing for the City of Port Townsend, said, "We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome all of our tourism colleagues from around the Olympic Peninsula to Port Townsend and Fort Worden. The lineup of speakers is impressive. We think everyone will gain tips and insights to help their businesses flourish in the coming year.”
