Sklar wins award for outstanding year
Stephen Sklar of the financial services firm Edward Jones recently won the firm’s coveted Ted Jones Prospecting Award, which recognizes financial advisers who achieve high levels of success early in their careers. Sklar was one of only 769 of the firm’s more than 15,000 financial advisers to receive the award.
Arp joins Clarity
Liz Arp is the newest team member at Clarity, a firm that helps businesses and nonprofits achieve financial health.
Arp has worked in the finance field for the past 10 years, handling bookkeeping for a wide variety of clients both large and small. She is a ProAdvisor for QuickBooks Online and a certified Bill.com Guru, and has extensive experience with Receipt Bank.
“I feel that the greatest advantage to QuickBooks Online is being able to collaborate with clients in real time,” stated Arp in a press release. “I am committed to supporting my clients with training and advice, because just having the technology is not enough – being able to implement and use it appropriately and effectively is imperative to making the most of the program.”
1st Security banker to retire on July 13
Jay Page is set to retire from 1st Security Bank in Port Townsend on July 13.
Page began his career with a short stint as a professional actor with the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California after graduating from Whitman College in Walla Walla. He went to work at Seafirst Bank in 1979 and became a branch manager in 1983, according to a press release from 1st Security.
Throughout his career Page worked as a banker in various Northwest cities, but returned to Port Townsend in May 2006 to look after his aging father. He went to work that year for Bank of America’s Port Townsend office as a teller. He stayed on after 1st Security acquired the Olympic Peninsula branches from Bank of America.
“I’ve loved bringing the small-town community bank ethos of 1st Security Bank here to Port Townsend,” he said. “With a few exceptions, I think our customers like the change as well. I personally know about 90-95 percent of our customers by first and last name – a skill gained from memorizing long scripts.”
1st Security invites the community to drop by the bank on July 13 to wish Page a happy retirement.
