Popsicles made with local fruit, cheese from Chimacum, pasture-raised meat from Marrowstone Island and colorful ceramic tiles are just a few of the new products to join the vibrant variety of produce, artisan foods, drinks and crafts for sale at this years' Port Townsend Saturday Farmers Market, set to open next month.

The market's 24th season opening takes place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 2 at Tyler Street in Uptown Port Townsend with about 70 vendors, live music and the annual goat parade.

Washington State Department of Agriculture Director Derek Sandison and Port Townsend Mayor Deborah Stinson welcome community members to the first day of the Port Townsend Saturday Farmers Market with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m.

The opening event is followed by a parade of baby and adult goats from Harmony's Way Farm and live music by Otto and Kristen Smith.

Also on the schedule is a chef demo by Arran Stark of Jefferson Healthcare featuring local, seasonal produce.

“I am really looking forward to my first season as market director,” said Amanda Milholland in a press release. “We have some great events in store for our Port Townsend and Chimacum farmers markets this year, including opening day at the Port Townsend Saturday Farmers Market, Artisan Food Festival on May 28 and Kids Days the first Sunday June-October at our Chimacum Farmers Market.”

The vendors this year at Port Townsend Saturday Farmers Market include more than 20 produce, meat and dairy farms; three artisan cheese makers; four craft alcohol produces; a wide selection of prepared artisan food, and art and craft vendors. Some of the new farm and food businesses at the market this year include PT Pops serving up popsicles with local fruit, Bainbridge Vineyard, Chimacum Valley Dairy, One Straw Ranch and E + M Seeds. New art and craft vendors include Ivy Glass, Sol Food, the Chain Maker and Salt Creek Studios.
