Learn how to start a co-op 

The community is invited to learn about how to start a local co-op and create a sustainable economy at two events sponsored by the Quimper and Chimacum Granges and other local organizations. Attendees learn about the many types of co-ops and how they benefit workers, farmers, producers and those seeking fair housing. The first event is 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22 at Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St. The second event is slated for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the Chimacum Grange, 9572 Rhody Drive, Chimacum. A suggested donation of $5 to attend supports the Granges.

ERN meets Feb. 23

The next quarterly meeting of the Strait of Juan de Fuca Ecosystem Recovery Network (ERN) is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s Red Cedar Hall, located within the tribe’s community center on Old Blyn Highway in Blyn. Agenda items for the winter meeting include a presentation on a report “2017 Cypress Island Atlantic Salmon Net Pen Failure: An Investigation and Review,” followed by a panel discussion on Atlantic salmon and net pen aquaculture.

Native plants focus of Dosewallips walk Feb. 22

The Olympic Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society hosts a hike at Dosewallips State Park on Thursday, Feb. 22. Those attending should meet at 10 a.m. at the restrooms in the main camping area west of U.S. Highway 101. The group is to walk several miles of forested trails above the campground and look for native plants. Bring lunch, all-weather clothing and plant books. Join work party Feb. 25

A work party at Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park is set for 9 a.m.-noon on Sunday, Feb. 25. The plan is to have the group pull Scotch broom, spurge laurel and holly in the woodland, and pick up trash. Park at Chase Bank and walk to the nearest bench, where a white pickup truck is to be parked. For more information, call 360-385-0307.
