The City of Port Townsend is in line to get a little bit of federal "stimulus" funding after all.
Three weeks ago, city officials were hoping to get $2.3 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It would have been enough to move forward with improvements to Upper Sims Way (State Route 20). However, the Legislature decided against funding "local" projects and allocated most of the funds to more ordinary highway paving projects and the like.
According to Public Works Director Ken Clow, the city is to get $359,000 in stimulus dollars for Upper Sims Way. Another $358,000 has been allocated to Jefferson County.
On Monday night, City Manager David Timmons said completion of the SEPA environmental review of the project is nearing completion.
