A 17-year old girl from Burien, Wash., died Sunday, April 9 when the vehicle in which she was riding left U.S. Highway 101 near Gardiner and struck a tree.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Erica J. Enns was a front-seat passenger in a 1997 Ford Aerostar van being driven by Jacob A. Anderson, 19, of SeaTac, Wash. Troopers report the vehicle was westbound at milepost 278, four miles west of Discovery Bay, when it left the roadway. The van went into the ditch and then struck a tree. The WSP ruled the accident's cause as driver inattention, and Anderson was cited for negligent driving.
Anderson was transported by ambulance to Jefferson Healthcare Hospital in Port Townsend with neck and back injuries.
Enns was dead at the scene. Both occupants were wearing safety restraints.
