Not one animal has been euthanized due to space limitations since the sheriff’s office began managing the Jefferson County Animal Shelter four years ago. All animals adopted from the shelter, such as this cute trio of kittens, are spayed or neutered and have had their necessary shots. Still, the county’s budget for animal services was cut by $21,000 for 2010, shifting more emphasis on the need for volunteers and donations to keep the shelter open.
