Susan Colleen Shelton of Bainbridge Island and formerly of Port Ludlow, WA, passed away Friday October 12, 2018 at Madrona House. Born in Portland, Oregon May 13, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Huelin) Walsh and was 80 years of age.

Susan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Gen Sci from Portland State University after previously attending Lewis and Clark University. Upon graduation, Susan would put her degree to work in a career with the US West Phone company. Susan worked her way up through the ranks and became a Market Manager working for the company 28 years.

Susan was attending a film class when she met Floyd, whom she married in 1975 and spent the last 43 years together. In 1983, they would move to the Magnolia District of Seattle where they would live until her retirement in 2000. She then moved with her husband to Port Ludlow where she became the first Chairman of Woodridge Village.

Susan was always active and enjoyed various sports. An accomplished skier Susan would spend her winters in Sun Valley on the slopes. She was also a runner and once held the half marathon record in Oregon. She enjoyed sailing and crewed on her husband’s race boat for many years.

Susan enjoyed traveling both for business and pleasure and logged many miles in Asia, Europe and Australia. Susan had a lifelong love of flowers and in her retirement years was active in the Port Ludlow Garden Club. Susan became a neighborhood icon with her morning to evening garden work.

In addition to her loving husband Floyd, Susan is survived by her daughters; Elizabeth Akiyoshi, and Marcia Ogden, her stepdaughter Carey Taylor, and her 5 beloved grandchildren Janie Akiyoshi, Natalie Frank, Danny Frank, Lesley Rytel and Sean Taylor and a brother Steven Walsh.

Private Interment services will be held for Susan at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon on Friday October 26, 2018 at 10:30 AM.
