Barbara Lynn Bowen passed away Aug. 10, 2016 in Turrialba, Costa Rica as the result of complications of a stroke. Barbara was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 19, 1945 to the parents of Grace and Tom Bowen.

Before moving to Costa Rica in 2009, Barbara was a long time resident of Port Townsend. Barbara regularly attended Unity Church with Rev. Pam Douglas Smith.

Barbara’s love of poetry led her to gain an MFA from Warren Wilson College. Her poems were a frequent contribution to “Minotaur.” Those who knew Barbara use the following words to describe her: inspiring, challenging, intelligent, creative, generous, scrupulous, and kind. Barbara brought out the best in each of us. She is remembered for sending hand crafted postcards and photos of the beauty she experienced in Central America.
