Grace Swenor Jones

Grace Swenor Jones passed away at Jefferson Healthcare Hospital, on August 12, 2017.

She was born in Marquette, Michigan on September 12, 1922. The seventh of nine children born to William and Elizabeth Swenor. Grace graduated from Graveraet High School in Marquette in 1940 and then attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, in Chicago, graduating in 1944.

While attending nursing school she met her future husband Howell Wyn Jones. They married in July 1944. In 1945 they moved to Southern California where they raised a family of 5 children. Grace worked as an RN in hospitals and physician offices until she retired in 1987. She and her husband moved to Port Townsend, Washington in 1992.

Grace was a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend, was active in PEO, worked for many years at the Port Townsend Food Bank, and enjoyed her weekly bridge games.

She is survived by her five children: Kathy Hill of Port Townsend , WA; Susan Stalter of Milford , NY; Jeffrey (Karen) Jones of River Grove, IL; Richard (Kay) Jones of Erie , CO; and Jon(Kelly) Jones of Red Bluff, CA. Eight grand-children, Richard (Rachel) Hill, Scott Hill, Evan (Maria) Stalter, Kate (Edgar) Giordiano, Emily Jones, Morgan Jones, Brittany Jones, Hailey Jones, and eight great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Grace’s life will be held on Sunday September 10th 2:00 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend. Memorial donations may be made to the Deacons Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 1111 Franklin St., Port Townsend, Washington.
