Carolyn Joan Lowrie passed away on October 12, 2017 lovingly surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home.    She was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on November 14, 1932 to Carroll and Joan Hanson.    She was the second of seven children.    Carolyn loved her siblings dearly and took on the loving role of caring for her little brothers with deep and binding love.

Carolyn’s family settled in Bremerton in 1940 for a few years before they moved to Bainbridge Island.    Carolyn loved island life and became highly involved in her school.    She was a Strawberry Festival Queen and cheerleader but the highlight of her youth was the relationships of island friends and classmates that would last for the rest of her life.      She will be remembered by them with great love and respect.    One of those relationships was the great love of her life, Ray Edward Lowrie.      They wed in 1953 after he returned from the Korean War.    Together they made a life on Marrowstone Island and raised four children:    Kurt Edward Lowrie, Brandt Matthew Lowrie, Bruce William Lowrie, and Karin Joan Lowrie.    She loved her children endlessly and was a giving and devoted mother.

“Mrs. Lowrie” accepted the K-8 secretarial position at Chimacum Elementary.    She became “the face” of Chimacum as she welcomed new families to the school.    She was the heart of the school in many ways for the staff and students. Former students will remember her kindness and grace when they visited the office.

Carolyn was a multifaceted and beautiful woman.    She balanced church, family, and friends with such dignity and love.    Even though she was burdened with difficult health issues Carolyn’s heart was always open and warm to visitors and family.    Love was her center.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Ray Lowrie and their children.    She swooned over her grandchildren Rachel Schmidt, Adam Lowrie, Alice Lowrie, Parker Lowrie, Brynne Kosjerina, Megan Gambill, Indigo Sappington, Ruby Sappington and Cameron O’Neill, as well as five great-grandchildren.

Carolyn loved the communities in Jefferson County. She heightened the awareness of love.    She will be missed and forever honored.    The message she gave was always, “Be yourself and love all.”

A memorial will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 11:00 AM on November 4th. The family is asking for donations to be made in Carolyn Lowrie’s name to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in lieu of flowers.
