Heaven became a brighter place as Betty June entered the gates. Betty was a breast cancer survivor, later passing away due to natural causes in Wenatchee, WA, at the age of 96.

Betty June Ingram was born in Sesser, IL, to parents Vernon Down and Dorothy Genevieve Ingram. As a young child the family moved to Clarkston, WA, where she graduated from high school in 1939. Betty began her college education at Eastern Washington State College in Cheney, WA. Her studies were short-lived, as she met the love of her life Darrell Greenwood, who was also attending the college at that time. They were joined in Holy Matrimony March 14, 1941 and celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary March, 14, 2012.

Later in life after relocating to Pasco, WA, she started a teaching career that eventually led her back to college where she obtained her BA in education from Eastern Washington State College.

All of this was accomplished after she had her five children. In 1976 our parents moved to Port Townsend, WA, where mom worked for Chimacum School District until she retired.

Upon retirement, Betty shared delicious meals with her children and grandchildren with most holidays and birthdays being celebrated together. She was always happiest when little children were around. Betty spent hours creating beautiful flower gardens and baskets brimming with fragrant blossoms. Her gardens were her pride and joy. She was always surrounded by colorful bouquets such as her colorful family. We all cherish our own special memories of Betty, the delightful person she was and the love and joy we felt in her presence.

Betty began the genealogical trail of the Greenwood and Ingram families. Her research has provided information back to the 15th Century. She and Dad enjoyed trips to the Southwest in their travel trailer. Betty also had the opportunity to travel to England and Greece.

Survivors include her five children, 14 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Darrell Greenwood, son-in-law Gary Dean Walters, grandchildren Roseanna Genevieve Walters and Brandon Charles Greenwood.

Betty will be joining her husband at the Veteran’s Memorial Wall in Medical Lake, WA.

Until we meet again, thank you Lord for our loving, devoted Mother and Grandmother. We have all been blessed with a tender heart and love for one another by your example. May your love always be our guide.
