Gregory “Greg” Eugene Jones passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 after a long illness. Greg was born on October 12, 1951 and lived most of his life in Seattle’s View Ridge area. He attended View Ridge Elementary, Nathan Eckstein Junior High, Roosevelt High School and Seattle Community College.

When he was 10, he got his first electric train. This was the beginning of a lifelong interest in trains and railroads. Greg also had a keen interest in Seattle Mariners baseball. Greg enjoyed attending games when he was younger and continued to watch games or listen to them on the radio until his death. He had fond memories of the ’96 Mariners season and even supplied season video highlights to family as Christmas gifts that year.

Greg spent his working decades with Simon Golub & Sons, a jewelry wholesaler.

In retirement, he relocated to Port Ludlow. He enjoyed walking his dog “Bridgette” at the scenic parks and beaches in the area, with Fort Flagler a particular favorite. Watching the birds and wildlife that made his neighborhood their home and caring for the plants surrounding his house were cherished activities.

Most recently, he lived at Vashon Community Care on Vashon Island. He enjoyed socializing at mealtime and walks around the grounds. He monitored the duck pond and was usually aware of what birds and other wildlife could be found there.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Charlotte Jones and is survived by his siblings, Sharon Sellereite (Ken), Douglas Jones (Kathy), Julianna Steveley (John), 6 nieces and nephews, and 6 great nieces and nephews. His kind and gentle soul and quirky humor will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held in late summer. Donations may be made to the Washington State Parks Foundation (wapark.org) or Friends of Fort Flagler (friendsoffortflagler.org).
