Jefferson County Library hosts a free public event with writer Martha Brockenbrough at 3:45 p.m., Monday, April 27. Brockenbrough is the author of two books for adults and four books for young readers. Her newest book, “The Game of Love and Death,” is scheduled for publication on April 28, 2015.

Described as “masterful and haunting” in three-star reviews, it tells the story of two teens in 1937 who fall in love without knowing they’re pawns in a game being played by Love and Death themselves.

In her library presentation, Brockenbrough – a former journalist and teacher – talks about the secret inspirations for the book, shows vintage pictures of Seattle, and plays music from the era in which the book takes place. Audience members are invited to ask questions and receive small gifts for attending.

During her visit to Port Hadlock, Brockenbrough also offers workshops at local schools, made possible through sponsorship from the Friends of the Jefferson County Library.

Brockenbrough is a former editor at MSN.com and the founder of National Grammar Day (March 4), and has written game questions for Cranium and Trivial Pursuit. She currently lives in Seattle with her family.

Jefferson County Library is located at 620 Cedar Ave. in Port Hadlock. This free event is cosponsored by the Friends of the Jefferson County Library. Seating is limited.
