Mojito at Manresa April 24

Michael and Vickie Townsend present an evening of Caribbean dance music with the Mojito Quintet at Manresa Castle on Friday evening, April 24.

These Port Townsend musicians have been playing their blend of folk, Cajun and Latin styles for more than 20 years. Michael is to play the Cuban tres guitar, and Vickie, the button accordion and flute.

A teacher and student of Afro-Cuban drumming, Bill Kiely is the area’s go-to player of percussion. The Townsends and Kiely share a musical passion for Caribbean rhythms and great dance grooves.

Dirk Anderson’s finesse on the bass is in demand all over the peninsula. Preferring a melodic approach to the string bass, he frequently can be heard holding down the bottom in a number of local jazz combos, often backing one or another of the area’s many fine jazz vocalists.

Focusing on the saxophone family, Kurt Festinger is a multi-instrumentalist with a long history of performance and education. He moved to the area three years ago after a lifetime of playing in the Los Angeles jazz scene.

Admission is $10, and tickets for the show are available at the door of the Manresa Castle ballroom. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. For more information, email upwestarts@gmail.com.
