Jefferson Land Trust’s Geology Group presents an illustrated lecture on “Rising Sea Level: Causes, Predictions and Coastal Impact” at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3 at Quimper Unitarian, 2333 San Juan Ave., Port Townsend.
The basic message is that “sea level is rising and will continue to do so well into the future as global warming proceeds, which leads to a series of basic science questions" related to sea level, states a press release.
The talk, given by Paul Loubere, examines these questions in a nontechnical way to provide perspective on issues created by rising seas in the Pacific Northwest environment. Loubere holds a Ph.D. in ocean sciences/marine geology from the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. He has more than 30 years of experience researching global ocean and climate systems.
The illustrated presentation is free and open to the public, although donations of $5 are appreciated. For more information, visit quimpergeology.org.
