The Boosters need a boost, so they're throwing a bash that's a blast from the past.

The nonprofit Brinnon Booster Club hopes to raise a ruckus and some money for the many services it provides by hosting a spring street dance, 8-11 p.m. on Friday, May 22. The indoor/outdoor event at the Booster Clubhouse in Brinnon features show and dance music by the vintage rock ’n’ roll trio Greased Lightning and preshow entertainment by the Brinnon Bluegrass Boys.

In the person of James Reynolds, Elvis is alive and well in Brinnon and making a comeback special appearance. Plenty of food and soft drinks are available, with seating in the clubhouse and dooryard.

A $5 donation helps the Brinnon Booster Club continue to house the Brinnon Food Bank, VFW and Brinnon Community Theater; host weekly bingo; and provide an annual Easter egg hunt.

Greased Lightning is a blitz of early rock, R&B, rockabilly, doo-wop and surf music, led by singer/guitarist Sonny-Raye Hayes of Port Townsend.

Hayes’ specialty is a tribute to Buddy Holly, which he has done with Elvis tribute artist James Reynolds and The Reincarnations of Rock ’n’ Roll.

Hayes and Reynolds have been around the block in many musical incarnations and, at the Booster Club Street Dance, they’ll reunite after nearly 10 years. Supporting them is drummer Peter Ross of Hoquiam and upright bass player Steven Urbanc of Port Townsend.

All Brinnon residents, the Brinnon Bluegrass Boys are composed of singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and storyteller Mitch Luckett; singer/songwriter, actor and musician Denny Kyot; and Rick Brown, also a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, who owns a business in Brinnon and is said to have picked bluegrass with Sasquatch.
