No rain, no gain

Though the Pacific Northwest rain pummeled, it did not do anything to dampen any music-lovers’ spirits.

The Classic Moonfest held at Lake Leland near Quilcene was brimming with tunes for the annual event. Beginning on Aug. 10 and ending Aug. 12, locals and festival goers were cheery as they took part in the music festival and car show.

The first day presented The Surf Band, followed by Joy in Mudville, capping off the first night with Jay Roberts and the Twilight Zone Trio.

The following day, anyone who had a classic car to show, was invited to put forward their entry. Music began in the early afternoon with Hannah Williamson and Pearl Munn, followed up by a double dose of Triple Treat.

While the full-band took a hydration break, the belly dancers of Shula Azhar took the stage to entertain.

Leon Hendrix, brother of Jimi Hendrix, made an appearance, displaying his fret know-how with his backing band. The festival finished off with Randy Linder’s Creedence Revelation, which performed all the hits from Creedence Clearwater Revival, with Zepparella closing out the show with their covers of Led Zeppelin.

Many who were scheduled to bring their hot rods chose instead to keep them in their cozy garages, according to festival organizer Sheryl Wolover. Those who braved the elements were awarded. Taking Best of Show was Joe and Darcy Cloud, while the Best Truck went to Tom and Launa Casey. The Most Original was Doug Such for his ‘67 Firebird. Ron Rodgers took the Oldest Vehicle for his 1927 Model T. The Best Rod went to Jesse Truesdal for his ‘69 Chevy Nova.

“We felt it was perfect PNW weather,” Wolover said. “Short rain kept the dust down, cloudy and sunny sky kept the weather form becoming too hot.”
