Back by popular demand after a sold-out concert in May, jazz artist Dmitri Matheny and his all-star quartet return to Cellar Door at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. The appearance, part of a 100-city tour of the United States, showcases selections from Matheny’s latest album, “Jazz Noir,” a fresh spin on crime jazz, film noir and timeless classics. The Dmitri Matheny Group features Chuck Easton on guitar, Ted Enderle on bass, Robert Rushing on drums, and Matheny – called “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players” by the San Francisco Chronicle – on flugelhorn.

“An all-star jazz band featuring some of the most accomplished musicians in the western United States, the Dmitri Matheny Group is a cohesive and seamless unit, serving up equal parts soulful expression, caressing phrases, imaginative asides and dedicated lyricism,” writes online magazine All About Jazz. Admission is $10. Call 385-6959 or visit
